As a 3rd generation winemaker, my path in wine began by following in the footsteps of my father and uncles. I studied viticulture and oenology in Bordeaux, where I completed my technical diplomas in 2004. From there, I was lucky enough to work and learn at some of the world’s great wineries including Château Margaux and Château Pichon-Longueville Baron in Médoc, and Robert Mondavi in Napa Valley. My curiosity then took me farther afield, refining my craft with leading producers in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Chile, Argentina, and Spain.
In 2005, I returned home to Rioja to focus on a small vineyard near Haro that my father, Antonio Palacios, had planted in 1989. That vineyard became the heart of Bodega Barbarot, my own personal winemaking project.
In 2014, I deepened my formal training with an oenology degree from the University of Rioja, continuing a journey that still inspires every bottle I make.
