100% Tempranillo. On the nose, fresh, intense red fruits predominate, characteristic of carbonic maceration, accompanied by floral and spicy notes. On the palate, fine, elegant tannins typical of the area stand out, with well-integrated toasty notes alongside ripe fruit.

2021 Valtracones Tinto
In 2015 we planted this bush-trained vineyard, and it has shown great quality from the very beginning. For this reason, every year we like to select a small part to make a red wine that is 100% Tempranillo, as a nod to the way these wines are traditionally made in Rioja Alta.

2021 VINTAGE
It may be the most distinctive of the past few years. The end of 2020 brought unexpected snowfall and a winter marked by cold temperatures in January and warm ones in February, along with higher-than-usual rainfall. The warm, very dry spring of 2021 in Haro likely led to earlier phenological development, water stress in the vineyards, potentially lower yields of smaller, more concentrated berries, and a lower risk of fungal diseases. June, however, was wet, increasing the risk of hail and the onset of such diseases, followed by a warm, dry period in August that favored balanced ripening of the grapes, resulting in a generally good-quality vintage. Grape ripening was considered optimal thanks to the dry summer and moderate temperatures in the final ripening phase. This allowed for good accumulation of phenolic and aromatic compounds. There were large temperature contrasts between day and night, which resulted in outstanding quality.
2021 HARVEST
The grapes were picked on October 12, by hand, in small boxes, with bunch selection before vinification in a 1,500-liter polyester tank. It was filled with whole clusters, which we trod by foot to extract part of the must, allowing us to work the cap by carrying out two pump-overs per day. When the must reached 0° Baumé, we proceeded to press, treating it as if it were a “carbonic maceration vat.” We blended the free-run and press wines, which finished alcoholic fermentation in a stainless-steel tank. Malolactic fermentation, carried out with the grape’s own bacteria, took place in third-use French oak Bordeaux barrels. We then aged the wine for 12 months, clarified it with egg-white-free products, and gave it a very light filtration before bottling.

In the area where our plots are located there is a geographical feature known as the Valtracones ravine. In 2013, some land came to us just 500 meters from our main vineyards planted in Los Carasoles de Bilibio. These plots are at different altitudes: the Garnacha Blanca vineyard at 520 meters and the Tempranillo at 480 meters.
This ravine is mentioned as a natural boundary in the demarcation of the area called La Calzada, located to the south of the Valdespino stream. Its influence is mainly beneficial, as it offers natural advantages such as soil drainage without large accumulations of water, which improves plant health and the concentration of sugars and phenolic compounds.
